June 7-30, 2019 Opening June 7-8-9, 2019 Rocca Malatestiana, Fano (Marche, Italy) Deadline: March 31, 2019
Centrale Festival 11 invites young artists working with photography and video art to apply for the eleventh edition of the festival dedicated to contemporary image that will take place in Fano, in the heart of the central-Italian region of Marche, from 7 to 30 June 2019. Artists of all nationalities born after 1989 can submit their projects. The works will be selected by a committee flanked by Luca Panaro, artistic director of Centrale Festival, and by Marcello Sparaventi, president of Associazione Culturale Centrale Fotografia. Each member of the jury will select one or more authors among the submitted proposals and will propose a curatorial project which he will follow personally, thus promoting the exchange between people and entities involved.
Born in 2009 with the aim of promoting photography and contemporary art, Centrale Festival has come to its eleventh edition this year. During its early years, the festival welcomed several Italian artists well established within the art scene and showed them to the public thanks to a tight program of debates, conferences and guided tours. The venues of the exhibitions have strongly characterized the festival, concerning some particular landmarks of Fano such as Rocca Malatestiana, an ancient late-Roman fortress that became one of the symbolic places of the festival. The next edition marks a significant step forward and renews itself, starting from its name. Moreover, Centrale Festival 11 will now address the younger artists generations, selected through an international call, highlighting this way the will to broaden its interests and support emerging research connected with contemporaneity.
The subject of the call is open. Photography or video art projects that make an original and attentive contribution to contemporary artistic research will be selected. Special regard will be reserved to works providing non-traditional display solutions that can interact in an original manner with the space. Artists are therefore encouraged to send, if available, images documenting previous installations of the works or potential installation solutions.
SELECTION COMMITTEE
The selection committee is composed of professionals working in different fields of contemporary art (such as curators, artists, and gallery owners), who are particularly active in promoting the research of emerging authors. Each member of the jury will develop a different curatorial project hosted in the spaces of the Malatesta Fortress. By selecting one or more artists, each member can choose to curate a personal or a collective exhibition.
The selection committee consists of:
Irene Guandalini (curator and independent researcher) Claudia Löffelholz (manager of The School of Advanced Studies FONDAZIONE MODENA ARTI VISIVE - Fondazione Fotografia) Marco Paltrinieri (member of the Discipula artistic collective) Monica Poggi (Chippendale Studio coordinator) Matilde Scaramellini and Elena Vaninetti (curatorial duo of Twenty14 Contemporary)
